A day with BBC Newsday
We had the pleasure of showing the crew of BBC Newsday around Detroit on a recent tour. The show host Julian Keane is fantastic presenter and was a pleasure to have on board. MCPW was able to show Julian the current status of some the forgotten neighborhoods, the beauty in decay, and the opportunities Detroit has to offer.
With a load of 9 tour attendees we departed MCPW headquarters at 8am on board our “Day Tripper” bus
Our first stop was the abandoned Harry Hutchins Intermediate School. One of the many beautiful schools in Detroit. Closed in 2012 and secured up to the Summer of 2013. 2 Gymnasiums, 2 swimming pools, large auditorium, library, and classrooms full of custom built wood cabinetry.
Since then scrapping, weather, and malicious destruction are destroying this school
But don’t be sad.. there’s still hope for this school. New York developer Ron Castellano has reached an agreement with the City of Detroit to purchase Hutchins School, several vacant homes, and buildings in this neighborhood
